Margaux will be joining pop giants Atomic Kitten, shock rocker Alice Cooper and nutty boys Madness at this year's Guilfest.

An up-and-coming pop star from East Herts will soon find herself on the international stage when she plays alongside the likes of Alice Cooper, Madness and Daniel Bedingfield. Singer and guitarist Margaux, of Great Hormead, will step on stage at the Guilfest summer festival in Surrey to showcase tracks from her debut album, 'My Difference'.

Margaux will play a set at 7.15 pm on the Friday of the three-day event, which will also play host to the likes of former Skunk Anansie frontwoman Skin, Atomic Kitten and Eurovision flops Jemini.

'I got into it because I was on TV,' explained Margaux. 'On 'Meridian News' there's a music feature called 'Around and About', where they have a different artist every Sunday.'

Camera crews came to film her at her home and when she told the producer about her attempts to get herself on the bill at the Reading Festival, he suggested she go for Guilfest. 'I got in touch with them and, on the strength of the TV programme, they booked me in. I was really chuffed.'

In addition to the Guilfest at Stoke Park in Guildford, Margaux will also play at one of Hertfordshire's biggest music events, Watford's Rainbow Festival. The Festival, over three consecutive Saturdays, is a platform for new musicians to make their mark. Margaux will bring her guitar-driven rock to the event at 11.45 am on June 28.

The musician, who was born in Cologne, Germany, to a Greek mother and Belgian father, is driven to succeed and dreams of being on 'Later with Jools Holland'.

But her main influence is not music but film. She said: 'When I was younger, I liked ZZ Top, David Bowie, I was heavily into Kate Bush. I love everything to do with science fiction, movies that stimulates the imagination. I love 'The Fifth Element'. I like things about space because I think one day we're going to go up there.'

Indeed, 'Fly Me To The Stars' on Margaux's album is about space travel, while another track, 'Desperation' is inspired by the Stephen King novel of the same name. But she said: 'It's very ambiguous because people think it's sexual. People think it's about being a sadist!'

Margaux hopes to crack the American market, and to support well-known bands on tour.

'I like the challenge of going to new places and reaching new goals. And I will not stop until I reach them.'

TV : 'I Want That House'

Margaux appeared on ITV1 in 'I Want That House': This programme featured Margaux looking at various homes in Siesta Key - Sarasota, Florida. She was seen playing her acoustic guitar on the beach singing 'Dance With You', a song on her new album. She also talked about her career and reasons for wishing to relocate to the USA.

Pop star looks for dream house in Florida as part of TV programme. Margaux homes in on success in US.

A BUNTINGFORD singer is to appear on TV searching for her dream house as her career propels her to pop stardom in the US. Margaux will appear on ITV1's 'I Want That House' on Tuesday searching for a luxury seaside apartment in Florida as she prepares to swap East Herts for the East Coast of America.
The singer said that filming the programme also gave her a chance to perform tracks from her recently released album 'My Difference'.

She told the Mercury: 'You'll see me look at three different apartments in Siesta Key in Sarasota, as I was looking for a home overlooking the water. You'll be able to hear me singing on the beach as well and talking about different things.'
But, sadly, viewers will not see the French-Greek singer settling into her perfect pad - they were all out of her price range.
'I didn't find the apartment I wanted,' she said. 'I won't be able to afford one on the water because you pay for the view. But I'm seriously considering relocating there because I travel to New York a lot for my music. It's a two-hour flight from Sarasota, and it's in the same time zone.'

Margaux - whose musical influences range from Madonna and Michael Jackson to ZZ Top - chose Buntingford over London as her British base because she needs the peace of a rural setting to be creative.
'The city for me is business,' she added. 'The country is relaxing and creative.'

She appeared in the Mercury in October 2001 as she prepared to release her Halloween single 'Spooky' in the US, but it was delayed after the terrorist attacks of September 11. Meanwhile, her new album is selling well on her website Stateside.
'It came out out two or three weeks ago and we've already sold 1,000 copies,' she said. 'I've got major record companies interested and we're going through talks at the moment.'

But despite her dreams of stardom, Margaux - who plays electric guitar and double bass - said she could never have gone in for TV shows such as 'Pop Idol' or 'Pop Stars - The Rivals'.
'It's not me,' she confessed. 'It works for people who are tailored to do that kind of stuff, but when you're an artist you've got to knock on other doors. I'm a rock chick. I'd rather play the electric guitar and sing.'

She added that she is also ready to take on the British market. 'I'm going to start with Herts,' she said. 'You have to go local before you go global.'
